Kate Heyward
Kate has been coaching runners since 2013 and was the very first coach to join Running Mums Australia (RMA). With over a decade of experience and national accreditation through Athletics Australia, Kate specialises in personalised training plans for runners of all levels – from first-time parkrunners to ultra-marathoners.
Kate has guided countless runners toward their goals. Her coaching philosophy is entirely individualised: no two runners follow the same plan, even if they’re training for the same event. Every program is tailored to suit the runner’s experience, family and work schedule, training history, and goals, with a strong focus on ongoing support, flexibility, accountability and mentorship with 25 years of running as her background.
As an athlete herself, Kate has experienced a wide range of events across road and trail. She’s just as comfortable chasing speed – with personal bests of 18:25 (5km), 38:38 (10km), 1:25 (half marathon), and 3:03 (marathon) qualifying and running Boston Marathon in 2019 – as she is exploring endurance on the trails, with standout performances like the Tarawera 50km and Taupo 100km in New Zealand.
Based in regional New South Wales, Kate trains in the natural beauty of state forests and local ovals and her passion is helping runners discover what they’re truly capable of – whether that’s chasing a PB or conquering a new distance. Located in Collaroy, Northern Beaches Sydney and I have access to most terrains and the Blue Mountains which I love. I’m also an accomplished Ultra distance runner completing Coast to Kosci (C2K) a 242km Ultramarathon from Eden to Mt Kosciusko and various 100km and longer Ultra marathon distances so I know what it takes to get you through any training program too!
